For youth by youth: participatory evaluation of gender-transformative programs

While participatory evaluation involving young people is nothing new, rarely have very young adolescents (VYAS) – 10-14 year olds – been directly involved in program evaluation. Engaging youth in evaluation is a priority for the Passages Project and Growing up GREAT!, a gender-transformative AYSRH intervention being implemented in Kinshasa, DRC. To put the concept into practice, VYAs are carrying out a youth-led evaluation to explore how communication and actions on issues of puberty, gender and sexuality have changed since project start. Participants in this mini-workshop will be oriented to youth-led evaluation concepts and gain hands on experience using MSC and PEER methodologies. Participants will have the opportunity to role play data collection (one for each methodology), either playing a VYA evaluator or VYA participant.
