Prevent Pregnancy? There’s an App for That!: Analysis of the Current Evidence and Latest Developments in Fertility Awareness Based Methods of Family Planning

Session Date: April 21, 2021

Session Description: New evidence syntheses examining the efficacy and implementation of fertility awareness based methods (FABM) of family planning have demonstrated that modern FABMs are effective contraceptive options that bring many benefits to women and couples. FABMs are used worldwide, but are often undercounted in contraceptive surveys, including the DHS. FABMs offer couples an effective alternative to hormonal contraception, while new digital apps show a new frontier for FABMs in digital contraception. This session will cover all the published evidence on FABMs, answering the questions: What are FABMs? Are they effective methods? Have they been implemented in FP programs worldwide? What benefits do they bring to users? What about digital apps? Are these reliable FABMs? Is this the future of fertility awareness?
