Improve Equity in Health Through Appreciative Evaluation

Session Date: April 23, 2021

Session Description: Appreciative Evaluation is a methodology that seeks to identify and analyze successful experiences as a lens for learning what works and why, so that programs and communities can build on past successes to move toward excellence and greater positive impact. Traditionally, evaluation has given a brief nod to existing program strengths and successes, or worse, has ignored them. Embedding Appreciative Evaluation into your health evaluation and health programs will enhance your ability to understand what is really going on, improve your culture competence, contribute to more equitable outcomes, as well as lead to more accurate and useful evaluation findings, conclusions and recommendations. In this session, you will hear about the logic and evidence behind Appreciative Evaluation, and explore examples of the techniques for implementing Appreciative Evaluation appropriately, and practice the power of reframing.
